“Do you have chopsticks?” The message on the Line page I saw was written like this.

“Yes, I do.” This person is probably the one who asked some question earlier.

Then there was a picture of wooden chopsticks sharpened to a point sent from the source. “Sharpened like this.”

Do you have any idea what they are talking about? Try guessing first, and let me know what you think of.

This is the year 2025, four years after the amendment of the criminal law regarding abortion to allow access to safe services under the constitution concerning rights and gender equality.

There are two main methods of abortion.
Suction: Suction using a plastic tube inserted into the vagina, through the cervix, and into the uterine cavity, then suction like sucking bubble tea, which can be done up to about 12 weeks of pregnancy, which is very safe. Many places can do it at clinics without needing hospitalization.

Medication: Nowadays, there are good and safe medications available for abortion services. The medication has been distributed to many clinics and hospitals, both public and private.

If you go to a public hospital, you will get the medication for free because the government covers the cost (other costs still need to be paid, such as internal examination fees, ultrasound fees, etc.). Or if you go to a clinic, it depends on the clinic’s price.

If the pregnancy is less than 12 weeks, take the first pill, then after 24 hours, use the second type of medication, either inserted into the vagina or placed under the tongue. The abortion will be successful more than 90% of the time.

But if the pregnancy is over 12 weeks, you need to stay in the hospital. The doctor will give the first pill (as before) and wait another day to insert the second type of medication into the vagina or place it under the tongue, which needs to be repeated every 3 hours until the abortion occurs, which usually happens within a day.

It is safe, but when the pregnancy is over 12 weeks, it must be done in a hospital because the abortion can cause more bleeding than with a shorter pregnancy.

Since the availability of abortion medication, it has made abortion easier and safer. Injuries and deaths from illegal abortions have steadily decreased.

Until the law changed to make abortion accessible, we hardly have any deaths from abortion in our country anymore. This shows that medication and access to medical services can truly reduce injuries and deaths among women.

So what does the communication image in the medical group’s Line that I received this morning mean?

It means that the crappy old-fashioned method of abortion still exists!

They tell women to use a sharp stick inserted into the vagina to break the amniotic sac and hope the baby will abort. But to be fair, it has improved from the past when they used skewer sticks or wooden scraps found under the house. Now they use chopsticks that have been washed, possibly with dishwashing liquid, sharpened, cleaned, sharpened, and then carefully inserted into the vagina, aiming for the cervix and poking to break the sac.

Ouch, that’s crazy, I must say.
