What should you know about your first time having sex?

“Do you only need to prepare a condom for your first time having sex?” In reality, having sex for the first time involves more than just preventing pregnancy. Things you should know and consider before deciding are:

  1. Are we truly ready?

– Don’t do it because of pressure, requests, or fear of regret later. It must be consensual for both parties (consent) and no one should be forced.

  • Know how to protect yourself in advance

– Condoms are a viable method, helping to prevent both pregnancy and STIs. If you’re still unsure, study other methods such as daily birth control pills/emergency contraception. “Withdrawal” is not a safe method of contraception.

3. Communicate clearly before starting

– You must be willing to discuss protection with your partner. If the person you’re with doesn’t listen or respect your rights → they might not be the right person to start anything with.

The experience of your first time having sex depends on how well you know your rights and whether you made the decision yourself. You always have the right to know, the right to choose, and the right to refuse.
