If you want to terminate a pregnancy, there are currently 2 safe methods that are medically accepted:
1. Use of medication to terminate pregnancy (Medical Abortion)
- Use two types of medication together: pregnancy hormone blocker + uterine stimulant
- Can be done at home under medical supervision if the pregnancy is not more than 12 weeks. More than 12 weeks should be terminated at a medical facility
- Symptoms during the process: heavy bleeding similar to menstruation, abdominal pain, fever, chills, diarrhea 1-2 times, slight nausea in some cases. Pain relievers and antipyretics can be taken to alleviate symptoms
2. Use of vacuum aspiration
- Use medical equipment to suction tissue from the uterus
- Suitable for pregnancies not more than 12 weeks. If terminated by a skilled physician, up to 16 weeks
- Performed at a hospital or clinic by a medical team
- Short duration, about 5-10 minutes, and a short recovery period before going home
Which method should you choose to terminate a pregnancy?
- If the pregnancy is less than 12 weeks and you want to do it without going to a service facility, with privacy → use medication
- If the pregnancy is less than 12 weeks and you want the process to be quick, without prolonged bleeding → use vacuum aspiration
- The doctor will help assess your health and recommend the method that is best for you
