On September 27, 2017, the network in Thailand organized the Pro-Voice 4 event and the 44th meeting of the network supporting women’s choices for unplanned pregnancies, campaigning for access to safe abortion services on the occasion of International Safe Abortion Day, September 28, every year, at Puean Rak Restaurant, Soi Phayathai, Ratchathewi District, Bangkok. There was a discussion on Abortion 4G: Good Technology, Good Service, Good Law, Good Life.
Good Service / Sincere Service by Dr. Nithiwat Saengruang, International Health Policy Development Office. Attitude is important. While society is beginning to change its mindset when talking about abortion, there are more diverse voices and increased understanding of women. However, the problem encountered is the attitude of healthcare providers who are still stuck with old beliefs. What Good service should be, according to WHO’s review, is sustainable development.
Person-Centered – Providing service with empathy, listening without judgment, showing that they are a person.
Accessibility – Women can easily access services, feel comfortable, and safe.
Quality – Quality service with good tools and safety.
Coverage – Covers all groups, supports expenses, and checks for any necessary services that clients have not yet received.
Comprehensiveness – Viewing humans in 4 dimensions: promoting, preventing, treating, and rehabilitating to become a good person physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.
Continuity – Continuity in service provision.
Coordination – Coordination between networks.
Accountability – Can be audited.
“Every woman has the right to equal access to safe abortion services, regardless of status, race, and religion, access to modern technology tools, and receive holistic patient care in terms of physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual aspects,” said Dr. Nithiwat Saengruang, RSA volunteer network.
