While the Constitutional Court interprets whether the laws related to abortion are unconstitutional, the Network for Women’s Choice and the RSA Volunteer Network have the following proposals for law enforcers and related parties:
1. Request that the public and all relevant agencies fully understand that the interpretation of abortion laws considered by the Constitutional Court is for the benefit of the health and quality of life of women and families, according to the basic human rights.
2. Request that all levels of healthcare personnel be aware and not fearful of assisting women in accessing safe medical abortions, as well as reducing barriers to accessing such services.
3. Request that those involved in the justice process, including police, prosecutors, lawyers, and courts, acknowledge and give importance to this petition.
4. Request that the police stop arresting and prosecuting those providing safe abortion services by doctors.
5. Request that the police focus on cracking down on illegal abortions and the online sale of abortion pills to reduce injuries and deaths of Thai women.
The Network for Women’s Choice and the RSA Volunteer Network hope that women facing problems will access safe services and that doctors providing safe pregnancy termination services will work with dignity, which will result in smooth and safe service provision within the health system. This is to prevent and reduce injuries and deaths of women from unsafe illegal abortions, which remain a significant public health issue in Thailand.
