The essence of Section 5 of the Prevention and Solution of the Adolescent Pregnancy Problem Act, B.E. 2559 (2016) is that adolescents have the right to make their own decisions, receive information, knowledge, and reproductive health services that maintain confidentiality and privacy, as well as social welfare, equally and without discrimination.
“Reproductive health services” include contraception, medical termination of pregnancy, and care during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum.
The Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health, is the main responsible body for this strategy, in collaboration with the National Health Security Office (NHSO), supporting effective contraception and safe termination of pregnancy using medication and Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA)
The Department of Health has developed medical personnel to have skills and expertise in implanting, inserting IUDs, and terminating pregnancies with medication.
The NHSO supports the budget for the following services:
1) Implanting and inserting IUDs for contraception in adolescents under 20 years old
2) Medical termination of pregnancy with medication and MVA for all age groups
3) Implanting and inserting IUDs for contraception after termination of pregnancy in all groups
