
Did you know that… the Ministerial Regulation specifying the types of service establishments and the operations of service establishments in preventing and solving the problem of teenage pregnancy B.E. 2562 was announced in the Royal Gazette on January 25, 2019, and came into effect on March 26, 2019 (60 days after being announced in the Royal Gazette)
The Ministerial Regulation specifies the types of service establishments and the operations of service establishments in preventing and solving the problem of teenage pregnancy B.E. 2562, with the main content including
All service establishments must provide information and knowledge on reproductive health to teenagers regarding their rights under the Sexual Education Act, contraception, safe sex, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS, etc.
All service establishments must provide counseling services with an emphasis on confidentiality and not persuade teenagers to make decisions according to the counselor’s wishes. There are 2 types of public health service establishments:
1. Establishments with reproductive health services
2. Establishments without reproductive health services
Reproductive health service establishments provide standard reproductive health services to teenagers
including
1. Contraception
2. Pregnancy testing
3. Miscarriage care
4. Prenatal care
5. Postnatal care
6. Diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (including HIV infection)
7. Treatment and counseling for victims of sexual violence
8. Medical termination of pregnancy
Items 1-5 must be available at all establishments, while 6-8 are optional. If the establishment cannot provide these services, they must refer to an establishment that can.
Teenagers can decide to receive reproductive health services on their own, except for the termination of pregnancy in teenagers under 15 years old. Teenagers can give consent in writing or verbally.
