
The Reproductive Health Division, Department of Health, in collaboration with the National Health Security Office, has initiated the project “Prevention of Repeat Pregnancy in Teenage Mothers” with the objective of allowing teenagers under 20 years old who are postpartum, have had an abortion, or wish to use contraception, to space their pregnancies using semi-permanent contraceptive methods effective for 3 to 5 years.
Criteria for Providing Contraceptive Services to Teenagers
- Services are provided from May 1, 2014, onwards.
- Semi-permanent contraceptive services refer to contraceptive implant services and IUD services.
- Service recipients must be Thai female citizens under 20 years old, of any health coverage, who are postpartum, have had an abortion, or wish to use contraception.
- Service recipients can receive services at service units within the National Health Security System or at healthcare facilities/service centers that voluntarily participate in the prevention and resolution of teenage pregnancy issues.
Note **In case the service recipient experiences side effects from the aforementioned services, the service unit or healthcare facility/service center must provide care and treatment without charging the service recipient.**
Contraceptive options benefits with contraceptive implants and IUDs for teenagers under 20 years old, of any health coverage, are free. Services began nationwide on May 1, 2014.
