Male Sterilization Service at Mechai Clinic, Sukhumvit 12

Did you know!! Currently, there is a male sterilization service (no-scalpel vasectomy) available at a cost of approximately 6,000 baht. You can book in advance at Sukhumvit 12, Community Medical Clinic, Population and Community Development Association (PDA), Bangkok branch.

There are 5 steps for male sterilization (no-scalpel vasectomy) as follows:

  1. Preparation: The area for male sterilization is the scrotum. Once you are comfortably lying on the bed, the nurse will cover your eyes. The staff will shave the hair in the scrotum area, only where the sterilization will be performed. After shaving, the doctor will apply an antiseptic solution to the scrotum and cover it, leaving only the area to be sterilized exposed. Do not touch the clean cloth covering or the area to be operated on, as it may introduce germs and cause infection.
  2. Injection: The next step is for the doctor to examine and locate the spermatic cords under the skin of both the left and right scrotum. Then, a local anesthetic will be injected into the skin and around the spermatic cords. This step feels like a regular injection, and once the anesthetic takes effect, there will be no pain.
  3. Locate, cut, and tie both sides of the spermatic cords: The doctor will use an instrument to grasp the spermatic cords from outside the skin, then use another instrument to puncture the skin to reach the grasped spermatic cords. The spermatic cords are separated from other tissues, and a section about 1 centimeter long is cut. The ends of the cut cords are tied securely with black silk, completing one side. The doctor will then locate and cut the spermatic cord on the other side using the same method through the same puncture in the skin. (Both the left and right spermatic cords must be cut and tied; otherwise, sterilization will not be achieved.) This method of sterilization through a skin puncture is called “no-scalpel vasectomy.”
  4. Check for completion: After cutting and tying both spermatic cords, the doctor will release them back under the skin. The small puncture in the skin will contract and become almost invisible.
  5. Final step: Once everything is complete, the wound is covered with a small adhesive bandage, and you can get up from the bed.
