
Pregnancy under 12 weeks: The service provider will dispense medication for pregnancy termination to be used at home by 1) taking the first type of medication at the medical facility or at home, and 2) after 24 – 36 hours, use the second type of medication, 4 tablets, by placing them under the tongue, in the cheek, or inserting them into the vagina. Side effects may include fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and 1-2 bowel movements. During the use of this medication, please have a friend present to assist.
After 4 – 6 hours, there will be abdominal pain, increased bleeding, and the pregnancy sac, tissue, embryo, and placenta will be expelled, indicating a miscarriage. The symptoms will gradually decrease and disappear.
Seek medical attention at the nearest hospital if you experience the following symptoms:
o Severe continuous bleeding
o Dizziness, fatigue, fainting, weakness
o Fever lasting more than 24 hours or fever with chills
o Foul-smelling vaginal discharge, abdominal pain, pelvic pain
After a miscarriage, there may be bleeding for the first 1 – 2 days, more than a normal period, and it will gradually decrease. During this time, avoid exercise or heavy work. Menstruation will return in 4 – 8 weeks. After a miscarriage, ovulation can occur quickly, and having unprotected sex may result in pregnancy. *Don’t forget to use contraception/use condoms every time you have sex. Follow up with scheduled appointments or perform a self-urine test 3-4 weeks after the miscarriage.
