We were taught in medical school that patients are organs with problems that need something done. We were not taught to separate personal attitudes and beliefs from work, leading to the refusal of abortion even though it is legal now.

Some doctors say they are Buddhist and don’t want to do it, and if they don’t do it, they don’t refer because they fear it is sending (the embryo) to be killed elsewhere. Some don’t refer because they think social services will help when the child is born, but this is thinking on behalf of others. Women are not just composed of a uterus but are full of thoughts and dreams.
