What to expect with medical abortion?
Medical abortion is a widely used method, especially in cases where the pregnancy is not more than 12 weeks. If assessed and supervised by a doctor, this method is safe and highly effective.
Things to know before using the medication
- The user will receive 2 types of medication, including
- Mifepristone (a hormone-blocking medication)
- Misoprostol (a medication that stimulates uterine contractions to expel tissue)
- Must be used strictly according to instructions and under medical supervision
After completing the medication
- There may be bleeding similar to menstruation or more for 7-14 days
- Abdominal pain similar to menstrual cramps, some may experience severe pain, nausea, chills, or fever, but it will gradually decrease. Pain relief medication can be taken.
Precautions
Do not purchase medication on your own or from unknown sources, as it may result in incomplete abortion or harm to the body. Care should only be received from a standard medical facility.
