April 3, 2017, at 1:30 PM, at the former Cabinet meeting room Cabinet Secretariat Building, Government House Admiral Narong Pipatanasai, Deputy Prime Minister, presides over the meeting of the Committee on Prevention and Solution of Teenage Pregnancy Problems, 1/2017 The meeting summarized the key points as follows

The meeting considered and approved the process of safe abortion in Thailand, which the Department of Health, in collaboration with Concept Foundation, studiedthe system of medical abortion services to evaluate the best modelfor service delivery in the context of Thai society, under the Penal Code B.E. 2548 Section 305 and the Medical Council’s regulations 

It was found that the effectiveness of medical abortionis less dangerous because it is free from complications of uterine perforationUsing medication could be an option to help reduce the dangers of illegal abortionreduce the costs for service users and the government expenses for treatingcomplications from abortion. The Department of Health has also collaborated with network partnersboth public and private sectors, to establish a network of volunteer doctors and nurses for safe abortion referrals RSA: Referral System for Safe Abortion to organize a referral systemfor abortion services and contraception to prevent repeat pregnancies for adolescents and women with unplanned pregnancies referred from nearby areasand call the unplanned pregnancy consultation hotline 1663

At the same time, the meeting considered and approved in principle the national strategy for the prevention and solution of teenage pregnancy problems for 2017-2026 according to the Prevention and Solution of Teenage Pregnancy Problems Act B.E. 2559 which consists of 5 strategies as follows

Strategy 1 Develop an educational system that promotes learning in sexual education
and quality life skills with an appropriate support system

Strategy 2 Promote the role of families, communities, and businesses in nurturing
building relationships and communication on adolescent sexual health

Strategy 3 Develop a quality and friendly sexual health service system
and reproductive health

Strategy 4 Develop a support system, protect reproductive health rights
and provide social welfare for adolescents

and Strategy 5 Promote the integration of database management, research
and knowledge management. The meeting assigned to improve
and amend the strategies as recommended by the committee
and assigned the secretariat to proceed with the relevant parts
