Under 18 years old and facing an unplanned pregnancy, can they make their own decision or must a guardian decide for them?

Answer: Generally, parental or guardian consent is required for medical procedures such as abortion or childbirth for those under 18 years old, except in urgent cases that are life-threatening. However, if the wishes of the parents or guardians conflict with those of the individual under 18 years old, the multidisciplinary team assisting with unplanned pregnancies will focus on the choice made by the child, by helping to assess the child’s potential and the surrounding environment. This approach is in accordance with the Child Protection Act B.E. 2546, which prioritizes the best interests of the child.
