Due to the fact that May 17th of every year is recognized as the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT), this day provides an opportunity to accept the sexual diversity of LGBT individuals and supports mutual respect regardless of gender identity.
Today, RSATHAI invites you to witness the announcement of success from the advocacy of issues proposed through the program “Policy By the People,” which has been incorporated into the Ministry of Education’s curriculum on sexual diversity in textbooks starting from Grade 1, by Mr. Danny Kittinan Thammathat, President of the Rainbow Sky Association of Thailand, and network partners.
After more than 2 years of fighting and pushing through numerous meetings to review the framework of sex education & sexual health in health and physical education textbooks, through a curriculum and textbook review committee consisting of academics, experts, and independent scholars from civil society, along with authors from the publishing house, today it has been accomplished.
The amendments to the health and physical education textbooks, covering from Grade 1 to Grade 12, are now 100% complete in the sections that cover all dimensions of sexual diversity and are ready for use in the upcoming new academic term in May 2019.
This demonstrates that everyone’s voice matters, whether they are ordinary people or those with diverse sexual orientations, they have the right to contribute to the growth of this society in a creative way and to accept everyone’s differences.
